THEME 5: ROADS, TRAFFIC AND PARKING

THEME 5
ROADS, TRAFFIC AND PARKING
A combination of heavy lorries and campervans and an increase in visitor traffic in general – has taken its toll on our B roads through Glen Orchy and along South Loch Awe-side. As a result, there is a need for ongoing maintenance as well as trying to remedy some of the problems.
Improving parking at key visitor sites is one part of the solution and better parking would also provide better access to these sites. Residents in Lochawe and Dalmally pointed out that there was a real need to improve pavements to connect housing in the area to local services and facilities and also to sites like St. Conan’s and Kilchurn Castle. They were also concerned about speeding on the A85 and through Glenview
MAIN PRIORITIES
Maintain and improve B roads
Improve parking at visitor sites
Improve pavements/paths to connect communities, services and key sites
Traffic calming e.g. reduce speeding on A85 and through Glenview
Some quotes …
“Single track roads that are safe to use, adequate and marked passing places, with verges and ditches that are regularly maintained and cleared”
“There is a 40 mile an hour limit on the A85 through Dalmally but no pavements or lighting along the road connecting the railway station to the Community Centre, School or Shop”
“We would love to see a pavement or demarked area for pedestrians along the main road and they installed the conduits for lighting in the 80’s they could probably still be used”
